For lasting success on your instrument
More variety and ease in practising and teaching
ema is an initiative that combines learning with more variety, ease, meaningfulness and healthier effectiveness. Seeing, hearing and feeling progress brings joy, fun and motivation. The teachers world and practising does not have to be reinvented every day. It is often a fresh look or a new experience that takes you further.
The presented ideas will take you further ...
We are the founders of the initiative: Erdmute Maria Hohage, violinist, lecturer in methodology and didactics for strings at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts and Angelika S. Schepke, violist, cultural manager and certified mediator.

Music courses
Several times a year we organise music courses lasting several days for different target groups and ensembles. They always conclude with a public final concert. Click on a cover to go directly to the announcement.
Asked - Answered (FAQ)
In the programmes for teachers, we always include mediation aspects, i.e. the teachers' perspective. As teachers themselves are also practitioners, they may be asked to decide for themselves which focus they would like to place - their own practice or teaching. For the target group of practitioners, on the other hand, the focus is on individual learning success.
The ideas that we present as part of the ema musik initiative don't develop overnight - many mature over months or even years. Looking back, this is roughly how it works for us:
We try out a lot. Our approach is very practical and characterised by openness rather than a fixed plan.
If something appeals to us - a new context, an exciting question or simply a flash of inspiration - we take it up. Often there is a concrete experience behind it, sometimes it is just a spontaneous idea.
Without pressure, we take a closer look at the topic, experiment, gather impressions and experience. And at some point, we come to a decision: Is it worth continuing - or not? Some ideas disappear into a drawer for the time being.
But many things come back later. If we have had new experiences in the meantime or changed our perspective, we suddenly see some things in a different light.
If we realise that an idea could also be of interest to others, we develop it further in a targeted manner: we fine-tune the details, test it extensively and get feedback from outside.
So far, the ideas have mostly come from ourselves. Of course, we are not in an empty room, but also receive inspiration through our activities. However, our studioTSNH is designed in such a way that ideas from others can also be integrated and publicised. For more information, please visit studioTSNH directly, which has its own FAQ.
Each offer explicitly states which instrument it is for. Occasionally there are also recommendations that actually apply to all instrument groups.
TSNH stands for ‘Try smarter, not harder’. Accordingly, studioTSNH is a platform that collects ideas in line with this motto and makes them available to interested musicians. It currently offers online courses and content with access around the clock for a small one-off payment. After activation, access is available for six months - during this period, the content can be worked through at an individual pace. Interested parties then have the opportunity to take part in various events such as workshops in order to deepen the content, exchange ideas with others and gain further practical experience.
ema Clinic is a free online event that anyone interested can register for. It is organised by the initiators of the ema music initiative. Each event is dedicated to a specific topic. Each Clinic begins with a short keynote speech in which the central aspects of the topic are presented and summarised. Participants then have the opportunity to ask their personal questions.
This varies depending on the type of event.
- The Clinic usually begin with a short keynote speech. After this, the room is opened up for the participants' individual questions.
- Each workshop is specifically tailored to the questions of the participants, which are discussed at the latest at the beginning of the workshop. Many workshops require that certain basic principles have already been worked out in advance. This makes online events attractive and effective.
- The wishes of the participants are also collected during masterclasses and woven into the subsequent events.
For some workshops, participants also send in sheet music or passages in advance.
If the tools were not developed directly by us, we often use things that are used for purposes other than their original function. The path to the idea varies: sometimes a specific object inspires a new application, sometimes we are specifically looking for a suitable helper to better realise an existing idea. We have our own developed helpers- such as the fingerboard attachment and the bow attachment - manufactured under our own responsibility. For other products, we specifically look for manufacturers and suppliers who fulfil our quality requirements. All helpers can be purchased directly from our own shop.
Interested musicians can actively participate in this way:
- Anyone who has a good idea that they would like to make accessible to others can participate in studioTSNH. Questions are answered directly in the studioTSNH FAQ.
- You can register as a tester and evaluator of individual ideas. If you are interested, please send us an e-mail directly to info @ ema-Musik.eu. Before anything is published, the ideas are put through their paces.
ema Musik is based in Germany. All content is currently available worldwide in two languages: German and English.
- Online events can therefore be attended from anywhere.
- The studioTSNH is also available worldwide.
- Live workshops mainly take place in the Rhine-Neckar region (Germany), but can also be organised in other cities and regions by invitation - both in Germany and abroad.
